Job Purpose

The Assistant Development Chef will support the Development Chef in the generation, development and introduction of innovative food concepts, snacks and meal solutions for agreed markets and existing clients. Working in a fast-paced environment, the role will assist with kitchen-based development, sample preparation, trials and presentations, contributing to the successful delivery of new product development projects. In addition, the role will provide high level support in the efficient and effective upkeep of the NPD kitchen.

The individual will learn all aspects of the product development process from conception through to launch.

Key Accountabilities

1.       Support the Development Chef and wider culinary team in understanding product briefs, timelines and costing requirements.

2.       Production of high-quality samples for internal reviews, customer presentations and manufacturer reviews ensuring quality and food safety align with business requirements.

3.       Assisting in the preparation, development and refinement of new product concepts in line with agreed briefs and brand standards

4.       Support the Development Chef in preparation, set up and clean down for internal reviews and customer presentations.

5.       Assist in the day-to-day organisation, cleanliness and safe operation of the development kitchen in line with required Health & Safety standards.

6.       Support & manage where required day to day kitchen duties inc: kitchen hygiene, equipment cleaning, stock control, stock rotation and ordering, product labelling, packaging stock.

7.       Develop & maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and clients, demonstrating enthusiasm for food innovation and continuous improvement.

8.       Learn all aspects of the Product Development Process and follow agreed stage gates ensuring completion of all relevant documentation.

Experience Required

·       A passion for food and global food trends

·         Experience working as a chef in a professional kitchen environment

·         Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety

·         Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

·         Basic IT skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint

·         Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
