It’s not often (honest) that we like to sing from the hilltops about our products, but with this month being Plastic Free July what greater occasion to share how we are working towards sustainable choices. Plastic Free July is an amazing campaign which spans globally, and organisers now have over 300 million people taking part – that’s a phenomenal success and confirms our opinion on how much people really want to change their plastic consumption habits for the good of the planet. That’s something worth celebrating!

Our team of packaging experts are always researching and developing new ways to deliver sustainable packaging solutions without compromising on quality, food integrity or service. Used across all our food solutions, BarricadeECO is a paper based food packaging platform which has been designed to deliver high sustainability values whilst bearing the Monty’s Bakehouse signature high quality and functional performance.

Achieving truly sustainable packaging for airline meals presents two challenges; the necessity for an ovenable substrate which can withstand extreme heats and linings that can withhold liquids to preventing leakages. Typically, plastic is an essential element to deliver quality finished packaging. Yet, the BarricadeECO breaks the mould. This fully biodegradable, compostable, repulpable packaging solution consists of a premium paperboard substrate made with virgin fibres from sustainably managed forests, a low migration ink system, barrier and coatings and adhesives all which are dual ovenable. Furthermore, the food grade barrier coating uses a revolutionary compostable barrier to protect the integrity of the product.

In a nutshell, it works for the crew, it works for the passenger, but most importantly it supports our mission to protect the planet.

Practicality aside, we also value the importance of image and what it communicates. Beautifully designed packaging can change our cognitive reactions and add or even alter the experience of the journey. Our through the line packaging service includes access to our super talented Brand Design team who have the honour of making this sustainable solution feature iconic designs to communicate brand values and all the core product benefits. They are keen to take on new challenges, so please reach out if you are looking for new packaging designs or a brand revamp.

So come on board our mission and get in touch to build a more sustainable future in the airline industry, but not before you sign up and take the Plastic Free Challenge – we can all do our bit!
