More Food Trends & Ideas!

We are loving 2021, it’s bursting with lots of new food ideas and trends, so we can be a little more experimental and follow our ethical beliefs with ease. Here’s just a few of the really interesting things we’ve spotted.

1.Mindful eating–health has been intertwined with food for many years now and it’s gaining momentum. At a restaurant we recently visited, the menu offered a pearl barley risotto with spring vegetables. The traditional risotto rice had been ditched for a more wholesome and mindful choice which offered a more nutty flavour. The result was a less starchy dish bursting with fresh flavours, a welcome change from the traditional creamy affair.

2.New ingredients-We love what Red Bull have done to bring some freshness into their range. The new Dragon Fruit flavoured Red Bull is a limited edition for the summer. The deep red sparkling drink bursts with bold berry flavours and gives a real zing for those looking for something a little bit different. Let’s hope dragon fruit makes an appearance on a few more menus soon.

3.There must be something about red, as we see beetroot popping up in a number of restaurant menus. Packed full of goodies including vitamin C, potassium and fibre, these root vegetables can improve blood flow and lower blood pressure. But what make it such a great addition to the menu is it’s striking colour. Beetroot falafel burgers make a great choice for those seeking a plant based diet. And our chef’s at Monty’s Bakehouse have used this lively vegetable in the Chilled Duo Box wrap. The vibrant crimson wrap adds a feast for the eyes and the mouth. Packed with egg, couscous, cream cheese and spinach, passengers get to enjoy restaurant quality food in the skies.

4.Would you like milk with that?-We are delighted to see the trend of alternative milks continue to gain a foothold in all food outlets. There’s a real acceptance and acknowledgement for those customers who choose plant based for health or sustainability. Now they can still have their coffee fix when they are out and about, choosing from oat, almond, soy, pea and coconut milk–how fast things have moved on.

5.For the love of caffeine - Our final feature is still on the topic of drinks; Cold brew coffee. A trend that has been bubbling away and building ach year, the cold coffee options in food outlets continue to go from strength to strength bringing with it oodles of innovation in flavours and serves. With it, the quality of serve gets competitive, as outlets strive to make the perfect drink. Coca Cola is getting in on the act with the launch of their own range of cold brew coffees in the US, available in a variety of flavours including vanilla and caramel.
